As of writing, the record-holder for the oldest player to have ever played in the league is Nat Hickey of the Providence Steamrollers. The 5-foot-11 guard made his debut at 45 years of age during the 1947-48 season. Interestingly, he was the coach of the Steamrollers at that time, and apparently, he had a strong urge to play for his own team. And so he did by activating himself for two games. Anyway, that happened way before the NBA was established (he played in the BAA league), and while he is technically the oldest player to have made his debut, we’re sticking with NBA guys for our list today.

The players we listed below were far from Hickey’s 45-year-young debut, but they were still pretty old considering the average age in the NBA’s modern era. So without further adieu, below are the Top 5 oldest players to have made their NBA debut.

5. Cheap Antoine Rigaudeau Jersey, Dallas Mavericks (31 Years, 33 days)
Date of debut: January 19, 2003
Stat Line: zero points, one rebound, one steal, and two turnovers in six minutes of action
Rigadeau, a French basketball legend who is widely considered as one of the best ever players to have hailed from France, ended up playing for just 11 games for the Mavs before he was traded (and eventually waived) months after his debut in a multi-player deal with the Golden State Warriors.

GAME NIGHT FROM THE UNITED CENTER: Dallas(2-3, 1-2 on the road) at Bulls (2-4, 0-3 at home) 7PM.

RADIO: 670 THE SCORE: Chuck Swirsky and Cheap Bill Wennington Jersey: 6:45 pre.
TV: NBCSC: Adam Amin and Stacey King: 7PM

LEADING SCORERS: Bulls: LaVine: 22ppg. Mavs: Doncic: 24ppg
LEADING REBOUNDERS: Bulls: Carter: 7 per. Mavs: Doncic: 7per.
LEADING ASSISTS: Bulls: White: 5 per. Mavs: Doncic: 6 per.

CCI PREVIEW: The Bulls make a quick stop at the United Center before starting a four game road trip Tuesday in Portland.

The undermanned Bulls will need to play a solid game against a Dallas club led by MVP candidate Cheap Luka Doncic Jersey who leads the Mavs in scoring, rebounding and assists. The Mavs are playing without Cheap Kristaps Porzingis Jersey who has been sidelined with a knee injury after undergoing surgery. He’s expected to return to action soon. If the Mavs expect to make any kind of noise in the rugged Western Conference, Porzingis MUST be healthy and ready to roll when the playoffs start in mid May.

Doncic is questionable for tonight’s game with a left quad contusion.

Without question the Bulls are hurting with the loss of Chandler Hutchison, Lauri Markkanen, Tomas Satoransky and Ryan Arcidiacono. The Bulls are experiencing the unfortunate side of life in these Covid-19 days. It’s next man up and that’s how teams have to approach it. Pro sports is an unforgiving industry. You win. You lose.

Wendell Carter Jr. is finding a nice rhythm to his game and is shooting 71% over his last four outings, averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Jerry likes to say that “if you work for yourself, you can’t fire yourself.” But isn’t that just what John Elway did in Denver? Hall-of-Famer Elway is as iconic in Colorado as Hall-of-Famer Jones is in Texas. But the Broncos boss, realizing that he’s overseeing the first team in NFL history to go to the Super Bowl one year and then fail to make the playoffs for the next five years straight, basically “bumped himself upstairs” in the Broncos organization and is now overseeing the hiring of the GM who will replace him.

If Elway can do it … why can’t Jerry Jones? If the Broncos think five years is too long, how can the Cowboys not think 25 years is too long?

*Supposed to be all positive and forward-looking and “new” in 2021, but if you dare to remember the lowlights of the Cowboys’ 2020 grab a barf bag and … here.

5. Alex English

English was the first player to score 2,000 points in eight consecutive NBA seasons. One of the greatest scorers ever, he averaged 22 points and six rebounds per game and was an eight-time All-Star during his 16-year NBA career. His first few years in the league with Milwaukee and Indiana were rather uneventful, but he began assaulting the NBAs scoring records beginning in 1980 as a member of the Denver Nuggets.

For a full decade through 1990, he was the leagues highest scoring player and helped the franchise reach the Western Conference Finals in 1985. No player scored more in the 1980s than the much-slept-on Cheap Alex English Jersey, one of the coldest offensive weapons ever.

4. Sam Jones

One of the greatest winners in the history of professional sports, Jones won ten NBA rings with the Celtics. He’s known as one of the most clutch players ever and, along with Bill Russell and K.C. Jones, was a part of eight straight NBA championship teams from 1959 to 1966.

*Couple eye-popping Cowboys’ stats from the final autopsy: How many offensive holding penalties you think they were flagged for? Yeah, me too. I was thinking at least one per game, so … like 18ish? Nope. Nine. NINE! Well below the league average of 14. More confounding, head coach Mike McCarthy tried more fake punts (3) than he threw challenge flags (2).

*Sad news this week re: the passing of radio icon Tom Bigby. Gruff? You betcha. Irrationally demanding? Dang skippy. Creative genius? Yep, above all else. Bigby hired me full-time at 105.3 The Fan in 2009, pairing me first with Newy Scruggs and later Greg Williams. Think of him as the Don Meredith of The Fan, the star who put the fledgling franchise station on the map before it got really good.

*Why is it Froot Loops instead of Fruit Loops?

*In his first game off the Mavs’ bench, Cheap Tim Hardaway Jr. Jersey produced an uncanny performance: 30 points on 14 shots.

Happened only four times before in team history and I almost guarantee you can’t name the quartet: Cheap Adrian Dantley Jersey, Cheap Chris Gatling Jersey, Nick Van Exel and Austin Croshere.

I would say that’s an impressive group to be included in, but it’s really more eclectic than excellence.

That’s not to say Tim hasn’t been excellent; his unselfishness here is notable enough.

*Think I’ll call my bank Cheap Tim Hardaway Jersey and demand it “finds” me $11,800. I’ll pretend not to listen when it shows proof of three calculations of my correct balance, and instead I’ll rant and blame conspiracy theories and promise grave consequences if the obvious errors aren’t fixed. What? Strategy was good enough for our political leaders.

*Got a chuckle out of Sam Ehlinger announcing he was leaving Texas to enter the NFL Draft, in part, because “I’ve accomplished all I can here.”

Really? The Longhorns’ quarterback went 1-4 against Oklahoma, never played for a Big 12 Championship and won only one significant bowl game (2019 Sugar over Georgia). Ehlinger is a tough runner and … beyond that, let’s face it, not cut out to be a star in the NFL. Arm not strong enough, much less accurate enough. He’s a really poor man’s Tim Tebow who will bump his ceiling at Taysom Hill.

Dallas Mavericks superstar Cheap Luka Doncic Jersey animatedly expressed his dismay that coach Rick Carlisle didn’t use the team’s final timeout during a critical possession in the final minute of a 112-109 road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night.

The possession, which occurred with the Mavs trailing by two points, ended with Cheap Kristaps Porzingis Jersey badly missing a contested 3-pointer with 10.4 seconds remaining. After the Mavs took a foul seconds later, Doncic angrily gestured toward the Dallas bench, repeatedly forming a T with his hands to indicate that a timeout should have been called.

On the previous possession, Doncic created an open look at a 3 for Cheap Trey Burke Jersey by passing out of a double-team. Burke missed, but center Cheap Willie Cauley-Stein Jersey grabbed the offensive rebound with 17.7 seconds remaining. Doncic didn’t touch the ball the remainder of the possession, as Cauley-Stein handed off to Burke, who drove the baseline underneath the basket and passed to Porzingis on the right wing.

“It’s Coach’s decision, but if we would have made the shot, everything would be good,” said Doncic, who had 29 points, 9 rebounds and 13 assists in the loss, accounting for 61 of the Mavs’ 81 points when he was on the floor. “… But I don’t know. It’s Coach’s decision to call a timeout or no, so I think it’s good.”

Doncic said he had not discussed the situation with Carlisle yet and declined to say if he intended to have that conversation with his coach.

“If we talk, we’re going to talk,” Doncic said. “It’s not going to be in the media. It’s between us.”

Carlisle said he would “not get into that publicly” when asked about discussing the situation with Doncic. Carlisle did not express regret with his decision to not call a timeout on the possession, noting how difficult it is to score against the Bucks’ defense if Milwaukee has an opportunity to get set.

“Look, we got two good shots and we preserved a timeout,” Carlisle said. “As a coach, that’s all you can hope for in that situation.”

The missed 3, which didn’t catch iron and caromed off the backboard on the other side of the rim, punctuated a poor shooting performance for Porzingis in his second game of the season after recovering from offseason surgery on his right knee. He finished with 15 points on 6-of-19 shooting (2-of-7 from 3-point range) in 29 minutes.

“There are things I could have done a lot better, and that could have changed a lot in this game,” said Porzingis, who felt that he rushed his final shot. “I want to take a lot of responsibility for this one.”

Porzingis said he needs to be “more calm” out there, acknowledging that he has been too aggressive at times as he tries to find his rhythm.

“There’s got to be a balance,” Porzingis said. “You want to be aggressive, but you want to be aggressive in situations and positions that you’re comfortable with. You don’t want to always look for it.”

Carlisle expressed confidence that Porzingis would find that balance as he gets his footing after missing the first nine games of the season.

“Put yourself in his shoes,” Carlisle said. “The guy desperately wants to help the team. If he was not aggressive, I’d be a lot more concerned.”
